Les espoirs étaient immenses concernant Kylian Mbappé. Son feuilleton avec le Real Madrid a duré de nombreuses années, ce qui n’a fait qu’augmenter les attentes, en plus du statut global du joueur. Pourtant, ses débuts avec le Real Madrid sont loin d’être au niveau attendu.
Cela peut paraître frustrant tant le joueur est adulé, mais il y a parfois des obstacles que l’on ne peut pas anticiper en amont et qui font partie du lot de toute carrière de footballeur professionnel.
Une acclimatation qui prend du temps
Changer d’équipe n’est pas toujours aisé, surtout quand celle-ci est dans un nouveau pays. Kylian Mbappé semble pourtant avoir eu le temps de s’y préparer en amont, maîtrisant l’espagnol sur le bout des doigts depuis des années, ce qui n’est pas surprenant au vu des qualités de communicant dont il fait preuve depuis le début de sa carrière.
Toutefois, il peut aussi être difficile de s’adapter footballistiquement. Le Real Madrid est un club qui dispose d’un effectif jeune mais déjà confirmé et qui a notamment remporté la Ligue des champions l’an dernier. Si Vinicius Jr et Mbappé ont rassuré quant à leur entente dans le vestiaire, une forme de friction sportive était à prévoir entre les deux hommes. Les deux évoluent naturellement dans le demi-espace gauche et jouissaient d’une très grande liberté sur le front de l’attaque l’an dernier.
Les premiers matchs de la saison ont montré une certaine désorganisation entre les deux. Ils semblaient se marcher dessus à la fois dans l’espace et les responsabilités. Récemment, un début d’alchimie a commencé à être trouvé, avant que le Français ne se blesse contre le Deportivo Alavés. La dynamique est donc positive sur cet aspect. Chacun d’entre eux semble avoir appris à rester dans sa zone.
Une condition physique à affûter
Individuellement, Kylian Mbappé a semblé relativement émoussé depuis le début de saison. Il était tout de même capable d’exploits physiques sur certaines séquences grâce à son explosivité, mais il avait du mal à enchaîner les efforts en restant lucide.
Enchaînant la saison avec le PSG puis l’Euro 2024 avec la France, son intersaison a été relativement courte et il n’a visiblement pas pu recharger complètement ses batteries. Sa pré-saison dans les mains d’Antonio Pintus n’a pas suffi à lui faire retrouver son tranchant. C’est pour cela que les Merengues profitent de sa blessure à l’ischio-jambier pour lui faire travailler sa condition physique.

Un creux passager
Tactiquement comme physiquement, on peut comprendre le début de saison en dents de scie du Français. Néanmoins, cela ne lève pas tous les doutes concernant ses prestations. Kylian Mbappé est en effet très maladroit devant les cages depuis le début de saison, même en prenant en compte les problématiques qu’il doit traverser.
Il a bien marqué 7 buts en 11 matchs officiels. Cependant, parmi eux, 3 sont issus de pénalties. Même s’il a été adroit dans ce domaine, cela n’a pas été le cas dans le jeu. Il compte donc 4 réalisations hors pénalty, alors que 6.5 étaient attendus (xG). Il a manqué beaucoup de face-à-faces, ce qui n’est pas son habitude. Pourtant, ces occasions, il se les crée. Il finit dans la bonne zone, malgré son manque relatif d’alchimie avec les autres attaquants, et prend son défenseur de vitesse, malgré le travail de fond qui doit encore être fait sur son physique. C’est une sous-performance qui ne tient “qu’à lui”.
Le niveau de performance d’un joueur n’est pas toujours constant, qu’il y ait une explication ou non. Malgré son acclimatation et son travail physique durant la trêve, rien ne peut assurer qu’il sera la meilleure version de lui-même. Quoiqu’il en soit, ses qualités sont indéniables et nul ne devrait douter que les choses rentreront bientôt dans l’ordre. Du travail, du temps et un peu de réussite, la recette, Mbappé et le Real Madrid la connaissent déjà.
